Winter Storm

On January 26th, we started getting word that we would be having a winter storm coming. It started to sleet, so we closed the office early. I got to leave work at 3:30, went out to the car, and there was about 2 inches of thick ice on the cars. It took me 30 minutes to get the car defrosted and at the point where I could safely drive home. So I get home and am trying to get up the driveway. After 4 attempts, I call Jeremy and let him know that I can't get up into the garage, he said to just leave the car in the driveway and he would take care of it when he got home. So I put the car in park, turned it off and put the brake on. Well the car started sliding down the driveway. Well, I didn't think that was a good idea, so I turned the car back on, backed up out of the driveway and I actually made it up the driveway!!! I was supposed to go into work at 10 on tuesday. I got up about 7:45 for my conference call @ 8. I looked outside and the ground was everything was covered with snow! I couldn't believe it - it barely snows here. I decided since Jeremy was off work, that he might be able to take me to work. I woke him up abou 8:15 (on his day off) and asked him to take me to work. So he gets up, I get ready and we get in the car and start toward work. It takes us about 10 mins to get 2 miles, and we got a little stuck twice. I called my boss to let her know that I wouldn't be in. Jeremy turned around and we went back home and got to spend the day together trapped at the house!!!
This pic was taken on Tuesday before I left to attempt to go to work.

Today was a much better day, lots of snow piles everywhere. The snow reminds me of living in Colorado (although its nothing like what Colorado gets). I can't wait until the weather gets a little warmer, I'm ready for winter to be over!

I love babies

A few weeks ago, Jeremy and I went to one of his cousins kids birthday party and we got to see the new babies that were born just a few weeks prior. I, of course, held the babies pretty much the entire time I was there. Jeremy took a pic of me holding Abigail (right) and Amber holding Olivia (left)

After being around babies, I get baby fever. I am just amazed that these babies just slept the entire time we were they, and you could move them, and play with their hands and feet and they really didn't seem to mind it. I just love little babies!!!!!!

I'm a knitting fool!

I made another scarf - this one was for my mom. Her request was brown/tan/off white colors. I found the perfect yarn and the perfect pattern and finally got it done!! I think I am done with scarves for a while - unless I get more requests :-)

Let the fun begin

So last night was my first night of class - Human Physiology. I really think I'm going to enjoy this class, and I'm hoping to do really well - like get an "A" I really thought about it, and I just have a ton of stuff to do before May. My goal is to start my RN program in the fall, well I need to apply to the RN program by May 1st, take 3 supplemental NCLEX (nursing tests, 4 hours each) and finish my independent study of my Native American Indian class. I feel like this is going to be a rough 5 months, and the more I think about it, the more I get stressed and the more I procrastinate! I am the biggest procrastinator you will ever meet. I have made it my goal to do at least 1 independent study task every night until I get done, and hopefully I'll have all that completed before April! On top of all that I will need to start studying for those supplemental nursing tests. This will be a very interesting time for me, but as I know, I sometimes work very well under pressure. Just take this as a warning - if you don't see me for a few months, you'll know why. :-)

More Knitted Stuff

Since I have been off school for the semester - I have been a knitting fool. This is yet another project I completed for another friend that is having a baby. The socks are pretty easy, I can knit the pair in about 8 hours if that's all I do. The blanket is something I have worked on for a while, and just now got it finished!

Bowling etiquette

Jeremy and I went bowling a few weeks ago, per my request. I LOVE bowling! My mom was on a bowling league while we were growing up and we LOVED going and hanging out with her league while they bowled. We would occasionally go bowling with my mom, in which she would teach and instruct us of how to bowl. We always had a good time. My brother and I started going to midnight bowling after we moved to Colorado, and it seemed that became our past time for a while.

In my recent times of bowling - I have discovered that not everyone is aware of lane etiquette. With mine and Jeremy's most recent bowling trip, I became increasingly annoyed with the fact that parents don't/aren't teaching their kids lane etiquette. I am stoked to be bowling again - the first time in almost 4 months, well I get my ball, stand on the lane and am focused on where I am going to throw the ball, when all of a sudden, this crazy kid on the lane next to me comes flying out of no where and throws his ball down the lane. This continued for a while, and finally the parents said something to the kids after I made a big deal about it. So the etiquette of bowling is:
1. Don't hover around the balls/lane when it's not your turn
2. DON'T bowl when someone else is getting ready to bowl!!!!!!
If everyone were to follow these two simple rules, it would make everyone's bowling experience a plesant one.

Dinner with Friends

Last night Jeremy and I went to dinner with Michael, Chandra, Alisyn and Piper. Since Jeremy and I had a remaining gift card for On the Border, we decided to go there for dinner. We got there first, and told them there would be 6 of us - and they said they were getting our table ready right now. That's a first - going to a restaurant at 7:15 on a friday night, with a party of 6 and getting seated right away! Wow, I was impressed. It's always great to see Michael and Chandra - It's amazing how quick kids grow up. Alisyn is 2 1/2 years old, and she is growing up so quick. She speaks so well and it's so awesome to watch her interact with Jeremy. She LOVES Jeremy! Piper is 4 1/2 months and she is growing like a weed. Most babies seem to change looks quite a bit during their first year - well Piper looks about the same - she just keeps getting taller!
So we order our dinner, talk and enjoy the company and then our food comes. Well mine is the last to show up and in true tradition - the ramekin of beans is half full and my grilled red pepper has the sticker still on it. I am kinda shocked about the beans, but just laugh it off. When the waitress comes back to our table, I asked her "Is this a normal portion of beans" and she asked me if that was how it came, and I told her "Yes" and then I proceeded to show her the vegetable that had the sticker still on it. She said she could make me a whole new plate and I just told her I would like a full ramekin of beans. Well she brings me a bowl of beans and the manager comes over and he asked if everything was OK, and I told him that it was. It was really funny because Michael looked at me and said "You do have bad luck" Yep! That's me - I have bad luck - all the time! They ended up comping my meal - which was nice and unexpected. Anyways, we finished our dinner and parted ways - Jeremy and I headed home to relax the rest of the evening.

New Year's Eve Festivities

Originally, Jeremy and I didn't have any plans for new years. He called me at work and asked me if I wanted to go to dinner at Chili's (we got lots of gift cards to Chili's and so did our friends Tim and Julie) and then to a flaming lips concert. I told Jeremy that I didn't know who they were, he told me that when I heard their music - I would know who they were. So I told him OK, let's go - we didn't have any other plans.
Jeremy and I head to Tim and Julies house and we all drove to Chili's for dinner. We were kinda rushed because the concert was supposed to start at 8, but we didn't mind missing the opening act.

After dinner, we head to the Cox Center for the concert. I was really confused as first because I saw people dressed up in costumes, like halloween costumes. I didn't think anything of it because it was only a few people - until we got into the concert area. WOW! It was like Halloween all over again. We saw people dressed up as robots, the wizard of oz crew, people dressed up in funky clothes with different colored wigs. Anyways, Flaming Lips started playing their first song - didn't recognize it, nor their second, third or fourth! Wow, this was really interesting now. So I googled them on my phone and found out that they were found in 1983 and were from Norman, well, no wonder I've never heard of them. Just when I thought things couldn't get more interesting - they did. There was this guy that had come down from the top and he was walking toward the bottom of the stairs and he was yelling someone's name. Well this guy in front of me stands up and starts yelling at him to shut up! So they exchange words back and forth and a fight almost breaks out. That was pretty interesting.
About 11:30 - the lead singer of the band says that we will ring in our own new year....so they start a countdown from 1 mintue and after the minute is over - all these balloons come down from the area behind the stage. It was probably the coolest part of the concert!

Since we still about about 15 minutes before midnight, we decided to walk to the area where they would be raising the ball. I was extremely excited about it because I've always thought this would be cool to do. We found an area in the crowd - kinda near the ball (which happened to be in front of 2 police cars) and we had a great view of watching the ball "drop" There was live music and at 1 minute till midnight - they started a countdown. At the same time, the police put on their sirens (which I still don't understand why they did this)
Right at the stroke of midnight, a HUGE display of fireworks started. This was an extra bonus because I didn't realize there would be fireworks!
By this time, we were all pretty cold. And the wind was blowing, so that made it even colder. Jeremy, Tim, Julie and I all went back to their house and played Mario Kart for the WII. I realized that I am still not good at driving games. :-( All in all Jeremy and I had a great night and a fun new years. I got to experience halloween and 4th of July all on New Year's Eve!

I hope each and every one of you have a safe, happy and healthy new year!

Scarf for Ashleigh

So I've been knitting quite a bit since I've been done with school for the semester. I knitted a scarf for Jeremy's sister for Christmas and then my sister asked for a scarf - so I knitted on for her. Here is the finished product! I am so proud of myself. The fringe is my favorite part - I want to make every scarf with fringe!
